Australian Literary Blogs

My homeland Australia is not just all crocs and poisonous spiders. We write and read books as well. In fact we have some rather good authors. To keep you up to date with the worlds of Australian Literature, here are 7 blogs about words that are worked down under:

Matilda

Reeling and Writhing

A Fugative Phenomenon

The Burnt Ones

Sarsaparilla

Reading Matters

Happy Antipodean

Thanks for the link, although my blog isn't really about Oz Lit. I champion Australian authors and books where I can, but my access to these works is rather limited -- unless they've been published in the UK (where I am based). Generally I have to rely on my trips home to Oz (about every 2 years) to stock up on Aussie books!

kimbofo, thats OK. I am in the same situation with Australian Lit. I am about to make my first trip back to Oz after a busy two years out. I did this short list because of my fatigue with the "crocs and spiders" image of Australia. I left Oz in 2000 but remain passionate about the culture. I hope it comes to the attention of more and more people in the northern hemisphere.
One of my collegues at university is doing a PhD study on migrant literature in Australia. She is teaching me about the contempory situation, mainly rom two texts; Stella's Place by Jim Sakkas and Hiam by Eva Sallis. Both of these novels seem to be excellent reads, although I have only read about them. Australian poets is another big thing for me. We have some excellent poets.
